19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been achieved on hard surfaces

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev secured his initial championship for over two years with victory over Corentin Moutet in the tournament title decider.

The Russian, a former world number one, has experienced a torrid year, winning just one win at the Grand Slams and experiencing a setback at the US Open.

The player's varied form on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his service game in specific - led to him exiting of the top ten and finally separating with long-time trainer Gilles Cervara.

Currently collaborating with Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has gradually advanced in the recent weeks - culminating in a closely contested three-set victory over opponent Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's maiden title after the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard court after March of that year.

The win also means Medvedev has achieved 21 titles at 21 various events.

"For the first time I am participating in a event with my children together, so to win a title is particularly special," commented ranked player Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in honour of my child her name, because the maiden victory I got when my older daughter her name was born was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had lost his last six championship matches, including in that event previously this season.

Medvedev's defensive approach and regular reactions on the tennis court had prompted commentators to wonder if his skill to perform at the top level was concluded.

Yet the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the past month, making an effort to approach the net and compete positively, backed up by an better serving game.

He recovered from a disadvantage in the opening set against the challenging opponent, taking four of the final five games to take the lead.

The pair exchanged service breaks in the following set before the challenger, striving for his initial professional title, seized the initiative to force a decider.

Moutet rescued four initial break points in a tight final set before the Russian broke to fifteen to secure the win.

Suitably, the winner secured victory with a shot at the net area, with his opponent failing to control a shot after a lengthy match.
